Its success helped Sega become one of the leading video game companies during the fourth generation of video game consoles in the early 1990s. Naka, Ohshima, and Yasuhara developed the first Sonic game, released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis, to provide Sega with a mascot to compete with Nintendo's Mario. Sure, it didn't work out well, but it shouldn't be considered the worst "Sonic" game of all time, because there's still plenty of other games that could easily steal that title.Sonic the Hedgehog is a Japanese video game series and media franchise created by Yuji Naka, Naoto Ohshima, and Hirokazu Yasuhara for Sega. As much as some people trash this game a lot, they also fail to realize that Sega at least made an attempt to appeal to the multiplayer side of video games at the time. That being said, there's still a few complaints I have, mainly being the obvious tethering mechanic (which makes sense in multiplayer) and the Spindash being nerfed. Chaotix was much more focused on trying to fix this issue. Sonic 2 and 3's multiplayer in the main game usually wasn't fun for the second player as they couldn't keep up with player 1 and have to wait 10 seconds to respawn just to fall behind and respawn again. People sorta fail to realize that this game was more focused on multiplayer, but still provided a single player experience. ![]() It actually isn't that bad of a game as people say it is. ![]()
